Description of Businesses

In addition to the core construction business (building construction, civil engineering, and overseas construction), Shimizu engages in four main non-construction businesses : Real Estate Development, Engineering, LCV (Life Cycle Valuation), and Emerging Frontier Businesses.

Construction Business

Non-construction Businesses

Building Construction

Shimizu proposes, plans, designs, builds, and manages the operation and maintenance of offices, plants, schools, hospitals, and a variety of other buildings.
In addition to proudly claiming top share in orders for medical facilities and welfare facilities such as nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, 18th century projects such as repair work on Nikko Toshogu Shrine and construction of the West Wing of Edo Castle by our founder, Kisuke Shimizu, was the beginning of our extensive track record in construction of temples, shrines, and traditional architecture. Another unique asset of Shimizu is the Tokyo Mokkoujou Arts & Crafts Furnishings, an in-house factory that specializes in woodwork.
We have also taken on the challenge of employing robotic technologies to improve productivity in recent years.

Civil Engineering

Shimizu designs, builds, and renovates tunnels, bridges, dams, urban infrastructure, energy facilities, and other public works.
After completing Japan's first underground LNG (liquid natural gas) tank in 1970, Shimizu constructed half of the existing large underground LNG tanks in Japan.
We have also taken on the challenges of projects that pose a high degree of difficulty, such as construction of the Ukishima South section of the Tokyo Bay Aqua-line Kawasaki Tunnel, the Kamihiro & Motoasakusa section of the Oedo subway line, Yamba Dam, and Oizumi Minami on the (southbound) Tokyo Outer Ring Road tunnel, and are accumulating technical expertise and a track record through these projects.

Overseas Construction

Shimizu entered the overseas market in the 1970s and has developed a track record over 60 countries.
Since establishing an office in Singapore in 1974, Shimizu has participated in construction of manufacturing facilities, high-rise buildings, hospitals, bridges, subways, and other construction projects in countries around the world, primarily in Southeast Asia. We are contributing to the development of these countries and enabling people to live in comfort.
