Helping to ensure safety through performance verification of large structures
A thorough understanding of structural performance is important for the safe and economical construction and maintenance of buildings. In the Structural Research Area, experiments using various types of structural testing equipment are conducted to clarify the performance and material properties of newly developed structures of various structural forms, sizes, and materials, leading to their practical application.
Types of Testing
- Structural tests using large-scale models of ultra-high-rise buildings, underground storage facilities, shield segments, and nuclear power generation facilities
- Structural tests of ultra-high strength RC structure, CLT structure (wood), large-space structure
- Material tests for new materials, fiber-reinforced concrete, and ultra-high-strength steel materials
- High-speed loading tests of seismic control devices
- Mock-up tests of special construction methods such as hybrid frames and concrete-filled tubular steel (CFT) columns
Facility Features
Structural Testing Machines
The 30MN and 10MN structural machines have the highest loading capacity in Japan.

Large-force Reaction Wall and Floor
A reaction wall and reaction floor are used to apply heavy loads, vertically and horizontally with high rigidity.
