When Shimizu builds a hospital, we stay close to the thoughts of the people who interact with the hospital, including the management, physicians and nurses, and patients and their families. We begin by thinking about what kind of facility can meet the needs of the community and demands of the times. In building hospitals, we believe it is Shimizu's mission to contribute to the realization of healthy, safe and comfortable living through the construction of hospitals, which are part of the social infrastructure.

For thirty years, The Yatsuo General Hospital served the medical needs of the Etchu Yatsuo area of Toyama Prefecture. In February 2018, it took on the administration of the nearby Yamada Onsen Hospital and relocated the two hospitals to two newly constructed adjacent buildings. The 154-bed Toyama Nishi General Hospital (formerly Yatsuo General Hospital) and the 120-bed Toyama Nishi Rehabilitation Hospital (formerly Yamada Onsen Hospital) now provide integrated medical care ranging from acute care to rehabilitation and chronic care. Shimizu the construction of the new buildings and also helped the hospitals to improve their administrative operations.

Putting Patients First in a Facility Built for Hospitality

The rebuilding project at Aizen Hospital in Sapporo, Hokkaido was completed November 2017 for the grand re-opening. Over the 30 years of our relationship with Aizen Hospital, Shimizu has led a number of design and build projects. The new medical ward is a "facility built for hospitality" from that long-lasting partnership.

Creating a High-performance Hospital with Practical Space

The TMG Asaka Medical Center, a 446-bed acute care hospital, was relocated to the site of a former university campus that is lush with greenery in Asaka City, Saitama Prefecture. It opened for business early in 2018.
A typical acute care hospital requires around 80 m2 of space per bed. However, we were able to achieve high space efficiency of 57 m2 per bed at the medical center by incorporating as many functions as possible within the limited budget.

A Public Hospital that Utilized the Advantages of Design and Build
Matsudo City General Hospital

On December 27, 2017, Matsudo City General Hospital in Chiba Prefecture was relocated and reopened at a new location. Under the design and build process used to build this public hospital, Shimizu was involved in all stages from design through construction.

Juntendo University Hospital, Building B

We assembled the expertise of Juntendo and Shimizu and succeeded in creating the futuristic hospital to show the world. We used the latest structural technology and fire evacuation system suitable for an ultra-high-rise building and established an advanced infection control facility for handling infectious diseases, among other advanced technology. The hospital was also recognized as world-class ecological construction.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Tama Medical Center and Children's Medical Center (1,350 beds) are operated under a new business model called PFI. Shimizu provides a wide range of services, including facility maintenance and management, security, reception, meal services, inspections, etc. and cultivates operating expertise at the site simultaneously improving hospital services.
