Exporting Infrastructure Paving the Road to the Future - Africa
Improvement of Tema Intersection, Phase 1 (Ghana)
Over the years, we have been playing our part in the progress of Africa by developing infrastructure that supports economic growth of African countries such as transportation networks, water supply facilities, fishing ports, and meteorological radars, etc.
Building the Trunk Lines

In Zambia, in southern Africa, Our company has been participating in road construction works since the late 1990s. So far, we have constructed the roads whose total length exceeds 150 km. Inner Ring Road in its capital city, Lusaka, was completed in 2014 and has greatly alleviated the city's traffic congestion. It is serving as an artery for city’s industrial sectors. People call it the "Tokyo Way" to show their appreciation for the contribution made by Japan.
In Ghana, West Africa, we have completed construction of No. 8 Road, a main road leading to the coast, and in Uganda, a key location for distribution in East Africa, we have completed a flyover in Kampala, the capital city.
Providing Clean and Safe Water
We engaged in construction and renovation of water supply facilities in the eastern states of Rwanda with ODA
from Japan.
Expanding the areas where there is a basic water service freed up the time and energy of
females and children who used to carry the water from far locations. It increased the number of children
attending the school. It contributed to improve the quality of life of people.

Promoting Coastal Fisheries

We have been involved in improving fishery infrastructure in countries such as Morocco, Cameroon and Mauritius
where fishery is the major industry.
Fishery harbors in Mboa and Manga in Kribi City on the southwestern coast of Cameroon serve as supply bases of
fishery products for the capital city of Yaoundé and the commercial capital of Douala. We undertook the
revetment and reclamation work for these harbors and constructed an administration building, an ice producing
facility, a sorting/packing building, a cafeteria, and a fishing gear storage and workshop. Promoting coastal
fisheries has revitalized regional economy and improved the living standard of local fishermen.
Measures to Tackle Natural Disasters and Climate Change
The number of cyclones in the southwestern Indian Ocean has almost doubled in the last 40 years. Mauritius is
an island country and thus, it has been hit by disasters such as storm surges, floods, and landslides every
year due to the cyclones.
In order to respond to such a situation, a project to construct a meteorological radar was planned with
Japan's ODA. Thanks to the facility completed in 2018, people can better monitor local or short-term
meteorological disasters, such as cyclones and heavy rains, and mitigate the damages.

Contributing to the Growth of Africa
Africa’s population is expected to reach approximately 2.5 billion by 2050, making it widely regarded as “the last major market.”
We are committed to getting actively involved in Africa’s development by leveraging the expertise gained through nearly 100 projects across 16 African countries to date.
