Shimz DDE Audix is a system that evaluates and visualizes the acoustic performance of spaces that accommodate large numbers of people, such as music halls and theaters. It begins with the study of spatial geometry based on the distribution of early reflections—an indicator used to determine whether singing voices and other sounds from the stage reach each audience member clearly. The design is then optimized through iterative setting of acoustic performance metrics appropriate to the intended use, including reverberation time, clarity of speech, and sound pressure level distribution, as well as examination of floor, wall, and ceiling geometry and materials (sound absorption performance) that meet these metrics.A key aspect of systemizing this process was quantifying the quality of early reflection distribution so that even non-specialists can evaluate it, making the system practical for real-world use.
