Shimizu Launches New Corporate Slogan to Enhance Brand Recognition
Today's Work, Tomorrow's Heritage

Shimizu Corporation (President: Yoichi Miyamoto) has established a new corporate slogan, based on which it will implement various efforts to strengthen the Shimizu brand and communicate its corporate philosophy to all stakeholders.

Since its foundation in 1804, Shimizu has consistently maintained a corporate approach based on integrity and has earned the trust of its customers while focusing on technology, quality, and innovation. As part of the celebrations associated with its 200th anniversary in 2003, all Shimizu managers and employees participated in activities intended to reassess and reaffirm its corporate values.* A common understanding of these values was developed through an intense discussion process, and it soon became clear that a redefinition of the Shimizu brand would be essential to future business activities. Last summer, we established the Shimizu Value Promotion Office to examine what efforts we needed to undertake in this area.

To ensure a broader understanding among the general public of the values Shimizu has adhered to since its foundation, the new corporate slogan is worded in the clearest possible manner. Shimizu sought to express its belief that by drawing on its rich heritage, it can accomplish things that citizens of the future will truly take pride in.

Establishing this corporate slogan represents just one facet of Shimizu's efforts to improve its brand power. The company plans to communicate its new corporate slogan through various media outlets from June of this year. At the same time, it will take steps to ensure that all employees and managers put into daily practice the ideas embodied in this slogan and that all stakeholders, including customers and shareholders, understand Shimizu's corporate approach.

In addition, the Shimizu public website will be thoroughly redesigned to make it a more effective tool for communicating with the public. This new website will play a significant role in communicating the company's new slogan. The website redesign will also feature enhanced usability and accessibility to make sure the site serves as a valuable resource for all users.

Starting in July, Shimizu will stage the Shimizu Open Academy, a series of open lectures for young people ranging from elementary-school to university students. These open events will provide a wide range of programs designed to encourage interest in construction and craftwork among youth.

*Activities intended to reassess corporate values:

A series of activities were undertaken to mark Shimizu's 200th anniversary. As part of these activities, employees were divided into groups of 10 to 20 members, with each group engaging in an intense dialogue concerning the core identity that Shimizu has developed over its long company history. Each of the groups then summarized their discussions and submitted reports to the company president. The results of these activities were released on the company intranet.
