Proposing pleasant work experience for employees and an environment to support high-quality construction utilizing computational design The Akiruno Plant of Uchino Engineering Corporation is an ultra-precision plant that produces some of the highest quality products in the world, including custom-made gears for new car development and special gears for motor sports. First, the designers went to the existing plant themselves to experience the same time and space as those working there first-hand. Based on the knowledge gained from that experience, they designed it to be pleasant for employees and a space that supports high-quality construction. Next, in order to understand the impact of environmental elements such as light and heat on the workers and machines, they used environmental simulations to visualize the invisible elements and provide feedback for design. Here, we introduce the design methods used in the environmental simulations.
