Biotope
Called Saisei-no-mori, the 2,000-m2 biotope located on the premises of the Shimizu Institute of Technology is used to investigate natural ecosystem regeneration, resource regeneration, and living environment regeneration. It also serves as an environmental education site.

Description of Tests and Experiments
Ecosystem Regeneration
An "ecotone" with a gradually varying environment extending from the water's edge to grasslands and forested areas serves as a habitat for various living organisms.
Resource Regeneration and Reuse
The biotope is used to verify technologies related to the reuse of waste generated from production. (Examples include the fabrication of floating islands from tire waste.) The biotope is also used to study water-purification technologies.
Living Environment Regeneration
The biotope is used for experiments involving the effects of plants and biotopes on human mood and mental states. It is also used for the study of micro effects on climate change.
Features of the Facilities
Total area: approx. 2,000 m2
Green area: approx. 1,000 m2
Water area: 650 m2
Plants
Trees: approx. 800
Grass plants: approx. 8,700 pots
Fish
500 fish of local species were released upon the establishment of the Biotope.
