Research Facilities: Vibration Testing Laboratory

Introduced below are the research facilities managed and operated by the Institute of Technology. Click the name of a research facility to view the corresponding details.

Vibration Testing Laboratory

Experiments performed at the Vibration Testing Laboratory are contributing to an earthquake-proof, high-tech society.
The Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake wrought devastating damage not just to buildings and structures in the earthquake-stricken area, but to facilities and equipment as well. In our advanced information society, the role of information and telecommunications technology continues to grow increasingly important. As such, protecting facilities and equipment from earthquake damage represents an extremely important issue in our society.

Description of Tests and Experiments

  • Fundamental experiments related to the development of new structural systems
  • Performance evaluation experiments for seismic insulators and vibration-control devices for buildings
  • Model-based vibration tests of interactions between ground and building
  • Earthquake-resistance performance evaluation tests for ceilings and free-access floors
  • Earthquake-resistance and functional-integrity confirmation tests for information and telecommunications equipment and servers
  • Development experiments for construction equipment and machines, as well as seismic-isolation and vibration-control devices for information and telecommunications equipment
  • Vibration-environment evaluation experiments for equipment and machines

Features of the Facilities

  • Large, three-dimensional, six-degrees-of-freedom vibration platform
